How We Roll

Tulsa Big Wheel was founded in 2009 by a group of guys with a vision. Jared Rogers, Joe Kurek, Scott Hamilton, Patrick Matlach, Nick Karlovich, Dave Walton, and Shane Jewell, began with the intention of bringing a new meaning and new style to charity events in the Tulsa metro area. The Big Wheel Race is unlike any fundraiser around and functions with one mission—making a lot of money while having fun. In this race, participants raise money to ride their favorite three-wheeled apparatus down a portion of Boulder St. and 18th St near Veterans Park to fight hunger and win prizes.

This year, Tulsa Big Wheel Race has teamed up with Tulsa’s Young Professionals for the third annual Tulsa Big Wheel Race, benefitting the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. Since April 2005, Tulsa's Young Professionals has grown to a 8,000+ member organization and is considered one of the fastest-growing and leading YP groups in the nation. TYPros provides its members with opportunities to build relationships with local community, business and government leaders and gives a voice to Tulsa-area young professionals from all professions. Giving back to the community is a large component to the organization and this year, the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma serves as their community partner and the benefitting charity for this year’s race.

The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma is the largest, private hunger-relief organization in Eastern Oklahoma. Located in Tulsa, they distribute food and other grocery items to 450 Partner Programs in 24 counties of Eastern Oklahoma. In Fiscal Year 2010, the Food Bank distributed 13.5 million pounds of food. While that number seems big, it does not take much to make an impact—just $1=7 meals to the hungry. Every day, hungry Oklahomans are being fed as a result of their efforts to fight hunger and feed hope.
